This kentucky straight bourbon from beam was formerly known as jim beam double aged. As i mentioned before this is an easy drinking bourbon and would be appropriate as an inexpensive go to for cocktails or mixers. Jim beam black is a premium bourbon with a more flavorful character made to be sipped and savored. It s those extra years of aging that give jim beam black its full bodied flavor with smooth caramel and warm oak notes.

That s why jim beam black is and always will be extra aged to taste and bottled only when it s just right. Jim beam black is the first big step up in quality from the original jim beam white label. I prefer the black label too. Our premium 86 proof extra aged bourbon ages years longer in white oak barrels than original jim beam.

Jim beam black label bourbon was originally aged for 8 years on launch but dropped the age statement for the label beginning in 2015 going with the term extra aged. Jim beam makes great bourbon and it s on display in their small batch series which includes knob creek basil hayden s baker s and booker s based on how jim beam black extra aged is positioned and marketed in beam s portfolio it fills the gap between the inexpensive and basic jim beam white and the company s more expensive and complex small batch bourbons. It s those extra years of aging that give jim beam black its smooth full bodied flavor. That bottling is aged at least four years in new charred american oak.

Jim beam devil s cut is not that portion. This no age statement bourbon replaces the black label 8 year. We take the liquid we extract from our barrels blend it with extra aged kentucky straight bourbon whiskey and bottle it at 90 proof to create a premium bourbon with extra depth and. Instead it s made from the liquid that gets trapped deep inside the wood of the barrel the devil s share.

Originally labeled with an 8 year old age statement jb black now comes to us as extra aged in a world where distillers are dropping age statements left and right there s some comfort in knowing the quality in this bottle is left largely intact. It is aged longer than jim beam original also known as jim beam white label. Black label extra aged is bottled at 43 abv. And of course just like its younger brother our original jim beam it s best when shared with others.

It was considered a premium edition above the more well known jim beam white label s four years of aging. Jim beam black extra aged bourbon was a real surprise for me. The result is a full bodied bourbon with an extra level of elegance and refinement that s meant to be sipped and savored.
